“I want to look natural, but I still want to feel special.”
And I completely understand what they mean.
You don’t necessarily want to walk down the aisle looking like a different person. But equally, this isn’t an ordinary day.
It’s your wedding day.
You want beautiful skin. Defined eyes. Flattering colour. Makeup that photographs beautifully. And when you finally look in the mirror, you still want to recognise the woman looking back at you.
That balance is exactly why soft glam bridal makeup continues to be so popular — and why I believe we’re going to see an even more refined, personalised version of it throughout 2027.
Bridal beauty is moving towards individuality, romance and enhancing the features that make you you. But there is something I wish more brides knew:
Natural-looking bridal makeup doesn’t necessarily mean less makeup.
Often, it requires more skill.
Soft glam sits beautifully between barely-there makeup and traditional full glamour.
The objective isn’t to hide your features.
It’s to refine and enhance them.
Beautifully prepared skin. Seamless foundation. Soft sculpting. Carefully placed blush. Defined eyes. Flattering lashes. Groomed brows. A lip colour that brings the entire look together.
Nothing should immediately scream:
“MAKEUP.”
Instead, everything should work together so that you are what people notice.
That’s an important distinction.
After more than 18 years working with brides, I’ve never believed that my job is to make every woman who sits in my chair look the same.
My job is to understand your face, your personality, your style and your wedding, and know exactly where makeup will enhance what is already there.
This personalised approach sits at the heart of my luxury bridal hair and makeup experience, whether a bride wants beautifully understated soft glam or something much more glamorous.
Soft glam isn’t simply about using less makeup. It’s about making every product earn its place.
One of the changes I’m happiest to see in bridal beauty is the move away from the idea that every bride needs to look a certain way.
There isn’t one bridal face.
And there shouldn’t be.
You might adore glowing skin but dislike false lashes.
You might want very natural skin but love a softly smoky eye.
Perhaps you normally wear full makeup and would feel completely unlike yourself in the barely-there bridal look your friend chose.
Or maybe you rarely wear makeup at all and the thought of a full-glam transformation makes you nervous.
Neither approach is wrong.
That’s why I don’t believe a bride should walk into her trial and simply ask:
“What’s trending?”
A much better question is:
“What is going to make me feel incredible?”
Your bridal trial is an opportunity for us to explore exactly that — your skin, features, inspiration, hair, outfit and the overall feeling you want to create.
This is where artistry really matters.
Creating skin that looks almost effortless while still performing like professional bridal makeup requires careful preparation and layering.
Your complexion may need to deal with:
Simply applying a very light layer of foundation doesn’t achieve that.
I look at the skin first.
Where does it genuinely need coverage?
Where can natural skin show through?
Where will the face naturally become oily?
Where should the light catch?
Where do I need additional longevity?
The answers are different for every bride.
That’s what allows me to create dimension without making the complexion look flat, overly perfected or heavy.
Real skin should still look like skin.
You don’t need to erase every pore, line or piece of texture to look beautiful on your wedding day.
This is one of the biggest misconceptions surrounding soft glam bridal makeup.
A bride will often show me a photograph and say:
“I love how glowy her skin is.”
But what she’s usually responding to isn’t an entirely dewy face.
It’s strategically placed light.
For bridal makeup, that distinction becomes incredibly important.
Too much shine through the centre of the face can look very different once professional lighting and flash photography are introduced.
So I want luminosity where luminosity is beautiful — and control where control is necessary.
High points of the face can look radiant and fresh while other areas are carefully set to maintain the longevity of the makeup.
That’s how we achieve expensive-looking, luminous skin rather than simply shiny skin.
This is another bridal beauty rule I’d happily throw away.
You can absolutely have beautifully defined eyes as part of a soft glam bridal look.
Soft browns, espresso tones, warm neutrals and carefully blended definition can create an eye that photographs beautifully without feeling harsh.
For my Asian brides in particular, eye definition can work beautifully alongside intricate jewellery, bridal outfits and dupatta styling.

The key is balance.
If the eyes are doing more of the talking, perhaps the skin remains softer.
If we’re creating a statement lip, perhaps the eyes don’t require quite as much intensity.
Definition and heaviness are not the same thing.
I want people to notice your eyes.
I don’t necessarily want the first thing they notice to be your eyeshadow.
Soft glam does not have to mean removing the elements that make Asian bridal beauty so special.
That’s something I feel strongly about.
Your bridal look needs to exist alongside your outfit, jewellery, hair, dupatta and cultural traditions.
A beautiful traditional bridal outfit with statement jewellery may require a completely different level of definition from an ivory civil wedding dress.
And that’s before we’ve even considered your individual features.
Two brides wearing similar outfits may need completely different makeup because their colouring, features, skin, personal style and personalities are different.
This is why I don’t believe in simply copying a “signature Asian bridal look” onto every client.
Your face isn’t a template.
Culture can inspire your bridal beauty without taking away your individuality.
Soft glam also works beautifully for brides having a civil, registry or church ceremony.
These weddings can call for a slightly different beauty approach — polished, timeless and sophisticated without necessarily requiring the intensity of a traditional Asian bridal look.
Think fresh skin, softly defined eyes, elegant hair and a finished look that complements a contemporary bridal outfit.

And this is another reason why I don’t believe in choosing your makeup in isolation.
Your makeup needs to make sense with your entire wedding.
It absolutely should.
But longevity comes from technique — not heaviness.

Creating that longevity requires understanding skin preparation, product compatibility, layering, setting and exactly where different formulas need to be placed.
A professional bridal artist isn’t only thinking about what your makeup looks like when you leave the chair.
I’m thinking:
What will this look like when she walks down the aisle?
What will happen when she cries?
How will it photograph?
What happens after hours of hugging guests?
What happens when she gets warm?
And:
Will she still feel beautiful when the evening reception begins?
That is the difference between makeup that looks beautiful for a photograph and makeup designed for a real wedding day.
Here’s my answer after more than 18 years of working with brides:
Whichever makes you feel most like yourself.
Don’t choose soft glam because Instagram tells you natural makeup is sophisticated.
And don’t choose full glam because somebody tells you that you “need more makeup for photographs”.
There is no universally correct amount of bridal makeup.
Your bridal trial should be about finding the balance between:
How you normally look + how you want to feel + what your wedding requires.
That’s where experience matters.
And if soft glam isn’t your style?
That’s absolutely fine too.

The service should adapt to the bride — not the bride to the service.
This is where bridal beauty can become really exciting.
Your ceremony and reception don’t have to tell exactly the same beauty story.
You may choose timeless, romantic makeup for your ceremony and then introduce deeper tones, more dramatic eyes, glamorous hair or a stronger lip for the evening.
A reception gives you permission to play.

Individuality.
Of all the 2027 bridal makeup trends, this is the one I hope becomes permanent.
I don’t want five brides leaving my chair looking like five versions of the same woman.
I want each bride to look in the mirror and recognise herself — only elevated.
Because when you look through your wedding photographs 10, 20 or 30 years from now, I don’t think the greatest compliment will be:
“My makeup was so on trend.”
I think it will be:
“I still looked like me.”
