Wedding hair and makeup is just a bit of hairspray, pins and some extra setting powder, right? Why the expense? Surely it should be much cheaper? Actually, this common attitude towards true wedding hair and makeup artistry is completely misguided!
Could you trust someone you have paid a low amount to make sure your makeup won’t smudge, your veil won’t fall out, and your updo won’t slip down? It’s so true here that you really do get what you pay for.
Where some brides may put their focus on the venue, the dress or the flowers, it’s actually the bride themselves, and particularly the wedding hair and makeup that people are going to be looking at! Not only this, but your photographs will last a lifetime – on the mantelpiece and in a wedding album for generations to come.
That’s why it’s so important to get your photographer and your hair and makeup artist right the first time.
Trust me, I know from experience! When I got married, I didn’t own my business and was confident that if someone was a ‘professional’ makeup artist, they would be able to do the job right. I had my makeup and hair done and got on with the day – busy tying the knot and having a lovely day with my guests. It wasn’t until I properly looked in the mirror that I realised that my makeup wasn’t as professional as it could be, and my hair wasn’t quite right. I had such a great time at my wedding, but some of the images from it make me cringe. If I had my time over again, I would definitely have made 100% sure I had invested in a top makeup and hair artist over worrying about food and place settings.
So, please don’t make the same mistake. In this game, you truly do get what you pay for. Make sure that when you’re sitting down with your spouse in 10, 15 or 20 years time, you open your wedding album and feel pride, happiness and you don’t end up cringing over what you looked like!
Finally, I would just impress on you to not skimp on the photographer, either. No one will remember the chicken or fish you had to eat at the reception in a few years, but the pictures you have from your wedding will serve as a reminder of how you felt and looked. There’s no point making sure you have an amazing HMUA if your photographer can’t capture how stunning you look! Make sure to do your research and I’d try to find someone who specialises in wedding, too.
Your wedding is only one day, but how you feel about it will last a lifetime. Take my advice and grab the best HMUA and photographer you can!
